Strategy Overview
Digital Navigation
A practical view of digital strategy across SEO, AEO/AIO, AI search, paid search, local visibility, demand generation, analytics, and website governance.
Digital navigation is the term I use for the full landscape of strategy areas that a modern digital growth leader needs to command. These are not siloed specialties. They are interconnected systems, and the leader who treats them as separate line items will always underperform the leader who sees the connections between them.
Search Engine Optimization
SEO is the foundation. Not because it is the most glamorous channel, but because it is the most durable. Paid campaigns stop generating returns the moment the budget is cut. A well-built organic search presence compounds over time. The work involves technical architecture, content strategy, authority building, and ongoing optimization based on actual search behavior data, not assumptions.
AEO/AIO and AI Search
Answer Engine Optimization and AI-Integrated Optimization represent the next surface area for search visibility. When AI-generated answers synthesize information from multiple sources, the question shifts from “can we rank for this query?” to “will our content be referenced in the answer?” The strategy involves structured data, content authority, topical depth, and a measurement framework that tracks citation presence alongside traditional ranking positions.
Paid Search
Paid search is a precision tool, not a volume play. The most effective paid search strategies are informed by organic search data: which queries have high commercial intent but are difficult to rank for organically, where competitors are spending disproportionately, and where paid can accelerate results while the organic strategy matures. The integration between paid and organic is where most organizations leave value on the table.
Local Search Visibility
For multi-location organizations, local search is not a secondary channel. It is the primary way potential customers find individual service points. Managing local visibility across 200+ locations requires centralized standards, location-specific content, accurate business listings, and ongoing monitoring. The work is unglamorous but the business impact is direct and measurable.
Demand Generation
Demand generation is the overarching discipline that connects search, content, and paid media to business pipeline. The goal is not traffic for its own sake. It is qualified traffic that converts into business outcomes. This requires understanding the full journey from initial search query through to closed business, and building each stage of that journey with intent.
Analytics and Reporting
Analytics without a framework is noise. Reporting without a narrative is a spreadsheet. The reporting frameworks I build are designed to answer one question: did the work we did produce business results? Month-over-month and year-over-year trend lines, clear attribution models, and honest assessment of what is working and what is not. Leadership deserves clarity, not optimism.
Website Governance
Governance ties everything together. Without it, each of the strategy areas above operates in isolation. With it, they reinforce each other. Governance means clear ownership, consistent standards, shared measurement, and enough organizational alignment that the portfolio moves in the same direction. It is the least visible part of the work and the most important.
